January 2010

To All Yeager Union Church Members and Friends:

As we move into the new year we move into a busy time in the church year. We begin with Epiphany and Baptism of our Lord then quickly move into the Lenten season..Lent starts with Ash Wednesday.  We will have a service on that date, Feb 17th at 6 p.m.  During this season we will also have a special program for the Worship Service on Sunday, February 14th as a gentleman from Romania will present the special music on his accordian then give his testomony.   Also as members of the Cole Camp Church Alliance we will participate in the Lenten Breakfasts at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic church every Wednesday morning during Lent at 7:30 a.m.

This season of repentance and reflection is in preparation for Holy Week and the celebration of the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ.  During Holy Week we will have a Seder mail at the churh on Thursday, April 1.  On Friday the 2nd, there will be a Lincoln Church Alliance Good Friday service.  Our Easter celebrations will include a 7:30 a.m. "Sunrise Service" followed by brunch in our Fellowship Hall and the annual Easter Egg Hunt.  At 10:45 we will have our celebration worship service.

After Easter we will prepare for our Spring After School Special.  We look forward to having the children of the church and the neighborhood come for crafts, bible study, snacks and play for an hour and a half six Wednesdays after school.

Fifty days after Easter is Pentecost, the remembrance of the coming of the Holy Spirit as promised by Christ as he ascended into heaven.  There is a lot of significance to these various seasons.  We hope to make the reason for each clear in our liturgy and sermons as we pay tribute to our Lord and Savior.

We are also going to be busy with mission and outreach.  The Mission Committee is looking into various causes and needs that we as a congregation and as individuals can be involved in to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate.  We will also be putting some direction into our evangelism activity.  As you know, we focus on reaching out to the poor and making disciples for Jesus Christ.

We need to take some action steps in disciple making.  But most of all we need to be aware of the needs and concerns of our own community of faith.  Having worship every Sunday, Sunday school and Bible study every Wednesday night are things we do to nurture our community of faith.  Also as members are confined to home by sickness or weather and as members are in the hospital we need to be with them, pray with them, and show the love that Christ shows for each of us.

A lot going on?  Yes. But nothing we are not called to do as Christians.  If you feel that you need to be mroe involved but don't know how to proceed, please contact one of the pastors to guide you in how you can best use your spiritual gifts to help our community of faith as well as the community around us.

As you may do after you have discovered a good restaurant, tell your friends and neighbors about Yeager church and invite them to a service or a bible study.  You know they will be welcomed enthusiastically!

Blessings to each and every one of you for the New Year and may your walk with Christ be ever brighter and more meaningful.

Pastor Bill
